There is a wealth of evidence showing that investing in the wellbeing of your people makes business sense.
It is no longer a ‘nice to have’.
Healthy, happy staff are more likely to be more productive, loyal, positive, creative, team-players and less prone to ill health or, when they do become ill, recover quicker. The result? Higher productivity and lower costs.
The Health and Safety Executive (October 2019) reported that Stress, depression or anxiety resulted 12.8 million Working days lost
A total of 28.2 million working days are lost due to work-related illness and workplace injury
1.4 Million workers are suffering with work-related illnesses (2018/19)
Of the 1.4 million suffering with work-related ill health 44% are related to stress, depression and anxiety and musculoskeletal disorders accounted 37%
From a survey of over 1000 HR professionals concluded that most respondents believe that their organisation’s health and well-being activity has had positive results in the last year, most commonly better employee morale and engagement (44%), a healthier and more inclusive culture (35%) and lower sickness absence (31%)
Organisations that have a standalone well-being strategy, senior managers with well-being on their agenda and line managers who recognise the importance of well-being are more likely to report positive outcomes
Employers that invest in workplace wellbeing can enjoy up to £36 return on every £1 spent. The Mental Health Foundation reports that providing better mental health support in the workplace can save UK businesses up to £8 billion per year.
Promoting wellbeing at work through personalised information and advice, a risk-assessment questionnaire, seminars, workshops and web-based materials will cost approximately £80 per employee per year. For a company with 500 employees, where all employees undergo the intervention, it is estimated that an initial investment of £40,000 will result in a net return of £347,722 in savings, mainly due to reduced presenteeism (lost productivity that occurs due to an employee working while ill) and absenteeism (missing work due to ill health).
Wellbeing4life have their finger very much on the pulse of what businesses and their employees require and how they can most effectively receive that information. Sharon and Elain complement each other with their presenting styles, knowledge and experience of the subject. They are clearly enthusiastic and deliver a session that is professional and highly credible – they really are gurus of workplace wellbeing!
One of the strands in our staff wellbeing package was led by Wellbeing4Life. As a school we are always trying to do more to enable staff to maintain a healthy work-life balance in a profession sometimes known to be challenging . Elain and Sharon delivered a bespoke workshop to the staff training day in September. They took the time to come and meet us and find out what we needed as a school then came back to us with suggestions on how they could meet our needs. They were knowledgeable and flexible and tailored the day around our needs.
Elain and Sharon delivered a workshop on ‘Managing stress and building resilience’ to my team and it was exactly what I asked for. We have an amazing team that I depend on and I recognise that the work can be busy and challenging which is why I put things in place to support their wellbeing. The team really enjoyed the workshop and continue to use the practical strategies that were introduced and benefit from the results. Elain and Sharon also provided a little about the science behind the stress response which the team really valued in terms of making sense of their own experiences. I would recommend Wellbeing4Life to any business who values their staff.
I have attended a number of events hosted by Wellbeing4Life and would recommend them to any business owner looking to improve productivity, team morale and absenteeism. Professional, evidence-based and with no gimmicks, Sharon and Elain’s approach makes sense.
